Exploring the Puente de Dios in Pinal de Amoles: A Natural Wonder

Located in the heart of the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve, Puente de Dios (“Bridge of God”) is one of the region’s most impressive natural attractions. Surrounded by lush canyon walls, cascading waterfalls, and crystal-clear pools, this site offers an immersive experience in one of Querétaro’s wildest landscapes. Puente de Dios is approximately 45 minutes by car from Jalpan de Serra, making it an easy and rewarding mountain excursion.

This destination is a highlight of our El Clásico Tour, which features some of the most iconic natural wonders of the Sierra Gorda.

The Best Time to Visit

The best time to explore Puente de Dios is from September to November, when the Río Escanela is at its fullest. During this season, waterfalls pour down the canyon walls and the pools take on vibrant colors, creating a dramatic and unforgettable setting. While Puente de Dios can be visited year-round, the rainy season offers the most impressive scenery and a truly immersive experience.

Guided Exploration

Access to Puente de Dios requires a mandatory local guide, helping ensure visitor safety and the protection of this fragile environment. The guided route lasts approximately two hours and includes insights into the area’s geology, flora, and fauna, adding depth and context to the experience.

Expect sections of the hike where you’ll wade through water or cross shallow streams—part of what makes this adventure so memorable. Proper footwear and clothing that can get wet are highly recommended.

El Camino Viejo Adventure Route

For those looking to experience Puente de Dios in a more immersive way, El Camino Viejo Adventures offers the Río Escanela Route, a moderate hike that follows the river itself. This route allows visitors to explore additional waterfalls, pools, and canyon scenery beyond the standard visit, providing a deeper connection to the landscape.
